Sheetz Convenience Store to Add Bitcoin ATMs to Six Shops
Sheetz, a Pennsylvania-based convenience store, will add Bitcoin ATMs to six locations.
The family-owned company announced a partnership with Coinsource on July 9, 2019, that will allow customers to buy and sell cryptocurrencies with U.S. dollars at kiosks in a handful of its stores. The bitcoin ATMs will be located in five locations in Pennsylvania and one in North Carolina.
“This is an evolution in being the ultimate one-stop shop for our customers,” said Nick Ruffner, a spokesman for Sheetz, per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
In order to use the ATM, customers must first enroll with Coinsource. Transactions between $5 and $5,000 can be made each day with the ATMs.
Vice President Ryan Sheetz said the company is exploring innovative ideas to give customers what they want, which is why it made the decision to add bitcoin ATMs as an easy method to buy and sell cryptocurrencies.
Despite the addition of the ATMs, customers still can’t buy anything with bitcoin at the stores.
In April 2019, Coinme and Coinstar revealed their plan to expand Bitcoin kiosks across 19 states to make them a commonplace sight in the United States. Later in June, Arizona-based convenience store Circle K announced that it would install bitcoin ATMs in 20 participating stores.
