Satoshi Nakamoto “Reveal”: Yet Another PR Stunt?
A well-known press release distribution service has published a bit which says that Satoshi Nakamoto, Bitcoin’s creator, will reveal their identity, as well as other important aspects of their life and career today, August 18th. It appears the release was submitted by a digital marketing agency and, by the looks of it, is nothing but a PR stunt.
Fake News?
According to a press release, Satoshi Nakamoto, the anonymous creator of Bitcoin, will reveal their true identity today, August 18th. The release also reads that they will be disclosing additional information about their life, as well as the reasons for not moving any of their 980,000 bitcoins.
The press release was submitted to a well-known distribution service by a digital marketing agency which claims that the reveal will take place on its website and one other venue.
Digging a bit deeper, however, it’s apparent that this is likely just another publicity stunt aiming to capitalize on the hype around Bitcoin and the curiosity surrounding its anonymous creator.
Yet Another PR Stunt
The marketing agency which submitted the press release claims that Nakamoto will make their identity known on this website.
Yet, it’s the 18th already and the website reveals absolutely nothing. The only thing there is a subscription form. We went ahead and subscribed and have yet to receive anything from the website.
What’s more, it seems the website was actually created 3 days ago, according to the Internet Archive. Furthermore, the domain name was registered 10 days ago on August 8th, and the website of the agency involved contains no related information.
Needless to say, there’s absolutely no evident connection between the marketing agency and Satoshi Nakamoto and, by the looks of it, this whole thing appears to be yet another attempt to gain attention through the curiosity surrounding the anonymity of Satoshi Nakamoto.
