PSG Fan Token Surged 50% Shortly After Messi’s Transfer Rumors

The Argentine professional footballer Lionel “Leo” Andrés Messi has left Barcelona after staying with the Spanish giant for over two decades. Now, rumors go wild where the living legend may end up, with PSG and its token feeling positive effects.

Messi Departs From Barca

Messi’s previous contract with Barca expired on June 30th, and the player had become a free agent for the club. Although both parties agreed to a five-year extension, the contract cannot take place due to La Liga’s salary cap rules, which limits players’ wage and acquisition costs to 70% of the club’s annual revenue.

As revealed by Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta on Friday, keeping the No.10 would place the team’s spending on player salaries at 110% of their annual revenue, even though Messi agreed to a substantial pay-cut.

While he had to leave, saying goodbyes wasn’t easy for the legend that spent most of his life in one team. Speaking at a Sunday conference, the superstar was quoted as saying:

“I gave everything for this club from the first day I arrived to the last. I never imagined having to say goodbye as I didn’t think about it. What’s clear is I did everything possible, and they (Barca) couldn’t do it because of La Liga.”

Messi Says PSG is a Possibility

The Argentine captain is now looking for a new club with multiple sources hinting that Messi is getting ready for a possible move to France to join his former Barca team-mate Neymar at Paris Saint-Germain.

An emotional Messi also noted during the conference today that nothing has been closed yet, but a move to PSG is a possibility, and he is in talks with the French side.

“Paris Saint-Germain is a possibility, yes. At the moment nothing is confirmed, I received a lot of calls after the Barcelona statement. We’re talking about it,” he said.

PSG Fan Token Gained 50% After Messi’s Rumor

Following the transfer whispers that Paris Saint-Germain is close to signing a deal with Messi, the club’s fan token $PSG surged by almost 50%, with the price moving from $29 to over $44 within the last 24 hours. According to CoinGecko, the coin has actually retraced slightly now, but it’s still more than 20% up.

$PSG was launched in 2020 as a fan token through a partnership between Paris Saint-Germain and blockchain-based fan voting and rewards platform SOCIO.com. Fan tokens are digital assets that give holders voting rights and access to club rewards and experiences.
