Mark Cuban: I Do Not Shill Doge

Fans of the NBA team, the Dallas Mavericks, will soon be able to purchase merchandise with discounts if they use Dogecoin as a payments method, announced the club’s owner – Mark Cuban. He also argued that he’s not trying to shill the meme coin as people prefer to use it.

The Lovestory Between the Mavs and Dogecoin

The story between the NBA team and the meme coin, which saw its birth in 2013, started in March this year. Mark Cuban, the club’s owner and cryptocurrency proponent since recently, indicated that fans will be able to purchase tickets and merchandise with DOGE.

Shortly after, the billionaire outlined the campaign’s success as the fans apparently preferred using Dogecoin for payments. Furthermore, he pledged that the Mavs will not sell a single token.

Cuban doubled down on his support for the meme coin earlier this week after highlighting plans to allow all fans paying with the token to benefit from “special pricing” for a summer merch sale.

While justifying his decision, the billionaire told CNBC, “it’s a medium that can be used for the acquisition of goods and services.”

“The community for DOGE is the strongest when it comes to using it as a medium of exchange.” – he added.

Cuban: I Do Not Shill Doge

With similar comments and initiatives undertaken by Mark Cuban and his team, he faced some scrutiny from the ever-vocal cryptocurrency community. Some speculated that the billionaire was trying to shill the meme coin.

However, Cuban argued that this is not his goal. Just the opposite, he shows support for Dogecoin because fans tend to use it instead of the more popular options like Bitcoin (BTC). As such, he referred to DOGE as the “people’s way to pay.”
