Huawei Files for a Storage-Related Blockchain Patent

Chinese tech giant Huawei recently applied for a new patent related to blockchain technology which deals with storage methods and devices. Huawei holds a number of other relevant patents, covering topics like Blockchain-based settlement methods.

According to the Chinese corporate database, Tianyancha, the smartphone manufacturer filed for a “blockchain ledger storage and device,” patent on January 17, 2019. The application announcement date at the time was set for July 14.

The government of the Nanshan District of Shenzhen previously announced a partnership with Huawei to boost the adoption of blockchain, big data, artificial intelligence, and 5G in the region by establishing the Kunpeng industrial demonstration zone.

Working with the PBoC

Huawei also signed a “strategic cooperation agreement” with the People’s Bank of China, or PBoC, but details were kept confidential.

This partnership was realized shortly after the PBoC began to test its digital currency in Shenzhen, in conjunction with Huawei.

In April, More than 100 well-known enterprises, both domestic and foreign, joined the Blockchain Innovation Alliance in China. Members include Inspur, Tsinghua Unigroup, Huawei, IBM, Tencent, Alibaba and Baidu, according to the announcement.
